Thursday morning 7:15 am with heavy back-packs , and arrived at the lodge at
10:20am. via the Rainbow Falls trail.
Norman was wet with sweat and his boots were ‘squashing’ when they arrived and had to change from foot to head into dry clothing and wring the sweat out of
the hiking clothes
Our cabin was the farthest one up the hill which Norman dubbed the "slave
cabin". They may have assigned it after smelling our sweaty clothing upon
arrival. (See attached photo with Tony and Samuel in front of the cabin)
After resting a while, we hiked to local views like Myrtle Point and the
Cliff tops. After supper, we were bored, so we headed toward Alum
Cave five miles away.
There were reports of a ‘rangy’ bear in the vicinity of the Lodge and we
didn’t want to get caught on the trail after dark…..especially with our breath
smelling like the roast beef and gravy supper that we had just consumed. Bear
‘scat’ was visible along the trail and we checked each ‘pile’ for finger nails,
rings, and false teeth.
Not knowing where the large ‘overhang’ on Alum trail is located, we were just
guessing. We walked for an hour or so, and then came back up Alum trail,
arriving at the Lodge a little before dark.
Norman was sitting on Myrtle Point watching sunrise yesterday morning and after
breakfast we came back down Bullhead Trail (six miles), arriving at the parking lot in 2
hours and fifty minutes. Again Tony was in front, and you could have
played cards on our shirt-tails as we came over the mountain.
